The South East Organizing Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Dozie Ikedife Jnr has thrown his cap to the ring to contest the forthcoming by-election in Anambra South Senatorial District to replace late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
Ikedife Jnr made known his intention at his home in Nnewi when stakeholders, including State Organizing Secretary, Hon Joseph C. Okeke, local government and wards executives from the four quarters of Nnewi gathered to give him their go-ahead.
Okeke said the party stakeholders looked around and came to the conclusion that Ikedife is the right person to run for the Senate under the APC in Anambra South.
“Our late brother, Ifeanyi Ubah was in the Senate and we all saw how he worked. He did very well and we appealed to our party to allow Nnewi to produce the replacement in the Senate.
“Many are qualified to go but we settle for Ikedife Jnr. And I know the stakeholders agree to the choice.
“He has done well as the South East Organizing Secretary of the party. He has made several interventions and we strongly believe he will share dividends of democracy well, “he said.
The party as a body then moved a motion adopting Ikedife Jnr to run for the Senate. They said they were confident in him to continue from where Ubah stopped to bring quality representation to the people.
One of the stakeholders, Dame Princess Esom Nwafor-Orizu said Ikedife Jnr has leadership qualities to run for the office.
She said that late Ubah joined the APC to pursue Igbo relevance in national politics which she said Ikedife Jnr would also pursue.
The Nnewi North local government Chairman of the party, Hon Prince Innocent Orizu said the party members would apply the same spirit they fought for late Ubah in all his political endeavors to fight for Ikedife Jnr for his success.
In his response, Ikedife said he was humbled for the confidence the party reposed on him to run for the election.
Ikedife Jnr said: “I will never disappoint you. As a South East Organizing Secretary, I have always asked what should be done for our people. My representation will be people-oriented. I assure you that I must fight for your right.
“One thing I must tell you is that if you are a member of the National Assembly without being a member of the APC, you are not relevant to national politics.
“The APC national has asked us to bring out whoever that can represent us. We must complete what Ubah did not complete especially in roads. We must complete all he left uncomplicated.
“We’re going to use two hands to do this bye-election.”
