The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man, Friday Emenike, alias Ekpo, from Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Ekpo is alleged to have been lending guns and weapons to criminals for their illegal operations in Awka and its environs.
The arrest was made possible after police operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Squad Enugu Ukwu raided a black spot in Umunaga Village, Awka South Local Government Area, on December 7, 2024. During the operation, two suspects, Okechukwu Chinwuko (27) and Ezenwa Chinedu (22), were arrested, and a pump-action gun, three live cartridges, cutlass, criminal charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs were recovered.
The operatives also rescued two female victims who had been allegedly forcibly abused sexually by the suspects. During further interrogation, the suspects confessed that they rented guns and weapons from Ekpo, leading to his arrest.
The case will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, according to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command.
