Police nab Ex Soldier, 7 other Robbery Syndicate in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has successfully dismantled an interstate criminal syndicate specializing in armed robbery and financial fraud.

According to the State’s Police Public Relations Officer DSP Daniel Ndukwe who made this known to The Daily Vendor, the operation, which involved the Emene Division, Crack, and Octopus Tactical Squads, alongside the Neighbourhood Watch Group, led to the arrest of eight male suspects and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, cash, and other stolen items.

The arrested suspects include Ismaila Isah (23), Sadik Ahmed (28), a dismissed soldier, Abbas Usman (33), Mubarak Garba (24), Abubakar Haruna (23), Abubakar Sani (32), Obiri Chukwuebuka (22), and Bright Omeniru (22).

Recovered items include, Two locally made pistols loaded with a live and expended cartridge, Cash sum of ₦300,450.00, Ten laptops, Land documents, Ten mobile phones, Assorted jewellery and watches, SIM cards, among others

“The operation commenced on November 12, 2024, when operatives responded to a distress call regarding an armed robbery at an estate in Emene,” he said.

Investigations revealed that the suspects committed multiple armed robberies within the Enugu metropolis and used victims’ mobile phones’ SIM cards to commit acts of fraud.

Sadik Ahmed, the dismissed soldier, admitted to exploiting his background as a former security agent to bypass checkpoints during the interstate shipment of stolen items.

Ndukwe noted that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The state’s Police Commissioner, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, while commending the operatives for the operational breakthroughs, urged them to sustain the momentum against criminal activities, especially during the festive season.
