LANDIKOTAL: Tribal Union of Journalists (TUJ) has strongly condemned the ongoing sectarian violence in Kurram district, which has resulted in the senseless killing of innocent civilians and urged the government to take serious steps to stop the bloodshed erupted in the district.
The TUJ has called on authorities to ensure the safety and security of both the general public and the journalist community in the district.
Following the tragic martyrdom of journalist Janan Hussain, the burning of another journalist, Muhammad Rehan’s house today, has raised serious concerns.
TUJ president Qazi Fazlullah chaired a meeting here in Peshawar on Saturday which was attended by a journalists from all merged districts and frontier regions. The leadership expressed alarm over the continued bloodshed and criticized the government’s criminal negligence.
They stated that the killing of innocent civilians reflects poorly on the performance of security forces.
Qazi Fazlullah highlighted the deteriorating situation in Kurram, emphasizing that journalists were also becoming targets in the ongoing unrest.
“Yesterday, journalist Janan Hussain was brutally killed by miscreants and today the house of another journalist, Muhammad Rehan, has been set ablaze. The safety of journalists in such conditions is gravely at risk.”Qazi Fazlullah said.
He demanded that authorities had to take immediate and effective steps to protect journalists and civilians in the district, lamenting the failure of the government to fulfill its responsibilities.
The TUJ leadership has called upon the Corps Commander Peshawar to take urgent action to ensure the protection of journalists in Kurram district. They reiterated that safeguarding the lives and property of both journalists and citizens is the responsibility of those in power.
