Edo Decides 2024: INEC Updates on Election Results, Addresses Security Concerns

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the completion of voting in the Edo State governorship election and commenced the collation of results.

In a statement on Sunday, National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna announced that voting concluded on Saturday, with Polling Unit results uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal.

“Results have been collated from all 192 wards, and collation has been concluded in most Local Government Areas. Designated officials are en route to the collation center in Benin City for State-level collation,” Haruna stated.

However, the commission expressed concern over threats to its office in Okpoba Okha Local Government Area, resulting in an injured official, and overnight demonstrations by political actors and supporters at the State Head Office.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and lawful process, emphasizing that Collation will proceed as provided by the Electoral Act 2022 and INEC regulations.

Adding that Mechanisms exist for addressing complaints during collation. He noted that accredited agents, observers, and media will have unimpeded access to collation centers.

The Commission urged security agencies to maintain vigilance and professionalism, ensuring the peaceful conclusion of the electoral process.
