The Nnewi office of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund(NSITF) on Tuesday held a sensitisation rally on the impact of climate change on occupational safety and health.

The event was in commemoration of World Day For Safety and Health at Work 2024.

NSITF with the mandate of providing social security services to Nigerians took her campaigns to the major streets of the industrial town of Nnewi and selected industries, companies and departmental stores.

The Assistant General Manager(AGM) and Nnewi branch manager of NSITF, Mrs Okereke Ifeyinwa Onyinye during an interactive session with journalists said that the event is celebrated all over the world.

She said that they set out to sensitize employers about their staff in relation to health challenges seen in work place especially with climatic change which has necessitated change in approach to dressing and water intake.

The AGM NSITF said the need to educate employers of staff on the implications of climatic change has become imperative so as to ensure that they provide basic office equipment which would make workplace more conducive for the workers.

She applauded the industries, organisations and companies that have signed up with the organization noting that they will never regret doing so.

Okereke however tasked the outfits that are yet to register with NSITF to do so for their own good.

“NSITF was established by an act of parliament, the employers make available one percent of their workers salaries which is not deducted from the workers take-home pay, once this is done, the organization takes care of the workers incase of accident and death,” she noted.

AGM Francis Okeke and other staffers of the organization participated in the sensitisation program.
