Bush burning: Heavy fire averted at Anambra Secretariat complex

A heavy bush fire was on Wednesday night averted at the Anambra State Secretariat complex, Awka.

The inferno which occurred around 9.27pm emanated from a bush in a plot behind the State Secretariat.

Daily Vendor gathered that the fire would have escalated to the facility if not for quick intervention of men of Fire Service who arrived the scene following distress call.

Confirming the incident, State Fire Chief, Engr Martin Agbili blamed the cause of the fire on careless bush burning by unknown persons.

He added that no life was lost nor damages recorded in the incident.

He said, “At about 2107hrs (9.27pm) of Tuesday 05-03-2024, Anambra State Fire Service, received a distress call of heavy bush fire in a plot behind Anambra State Secretariat complex, Awka.

“Immediately, we deployed our fire truck and gallant Firefighters to fire scene. We fought, controlled and extinguished the fire.

“The cause of the fire was careless bush burning by unknown person(s) and leaving it unattended.

“No damages were recorded as we fought the fire to standstill before it could get inside the Secretariat Complex.

“We withdrew from the fire scene at about 2215hrs (10.15pm).”
