Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has charged teachers in the state to take their jobs seriously, including attending and teaching their classes regularly.
He vowed to deal with any teacher who trivialized his/her job, stressing that a bad teacher is worse than a murderer.
Speaking through Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh in Union Secondary School Agulu, Soludo warned that government would not take it kindly with any teacher who is not serious with his/her job.
Chuma-Udeh had invited the Principal and teachers of the school following reports of irregular attendance by teachers in the school.
She revealed that teachers are the descendants of Christ, stressing the need for them to work like their master.
“Government will not take it kindly with any teacher who is not serious with his/her job. A bad teacher is worse than a murderer,” she said.
While advising teachers to leave if their salary wa not enough for them, the Commissioner hinted that the Ministry would soon undertake an unannounced inspection visit to schools to find out teachers who did not take their job seriously.
Speaking separately on behalf of the teachers, the Principal, Mrs Scholar Onyebuchi, and her Vice Principals, Mrs Ezeike Florence and Mr Frank Agbago, tendered an unreserved apology to the Commissioner and promised to turn a new leaf.
