TORKHAM: Customs Appraisement officials at Torkham border foiled an attempt to smuggle millions of ruppes of precious stones from Afghanistan on Saturday, officials said.
Custom official Ayaz told said that taking action on a tip-off, a coal loaded truck(KBL-1881) coming from Afghanistan, was intercepted at Torkham border. He said that during search, they recovered 71 kilograms of raw precious stones from the hidden cavities of the truck.
Ayaz said the seized stones were included of Kunzite, Green Spodomen, and Scapolite.
The value of the seized precious stones in the open market is Rs405 Million in Pakistan.
The official said they also seized the truck and coal worth 6 million rupees.
Driver identified as Noor Aziz,resident of Afghanistan is arrested, and First Information Report(FIR) registered against him.
