A middle-aged man was at the weekend arrested by police operatives with arms at one of the hotels in Awka, Anambra State.
The suspect, identified as Echezona was apprehended while lurking around the hotel premises.
Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga said one English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him.
He added that Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye has ordered for investigation after which the suspect would be charged.
He said, “Surveillance Operatives of Anambra State Police Command have arrested a lone gunman at a popular hotel (name withheld) in Awka.
“Surveillance Operatives who observed the suspect prowling around the premises on 20th July. 2023 accosted him and conducted a search on his person.
“The suspect who gave his name as Akuchieani Echezona, a male resident of Ifite Awka, was disarmed, arrested and taken into custody.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered State CID Awka to take over the case and investigate source of the weapon as well as the gunman’s intention for going armed to the hotel.
“The suspect is to be arraigned in court at conclusion of investigation.”
