A residential house accommodating lot of offices, warehouses and a church was on Sunday razed by fire along Zik’s Avenue, Umudioka village, Awka, Anambra State.
The fire was reportedly caused by power surge from one the electrical appliances.
Although no life was lost in the inferno, some properties in some shops and some residential houses were damaged
Confirming the incident, State Fire Chief Engr Martin Agbili said no loss of lives was recorded in the inferno
He said, “About 1457hrs (2.57pm) of today Sunday 15-07-2023, Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call of heavy fire outbreak along ZIK’S AVENUE UMUDIOKA VILLAGE AWKA.
“The building is a residential house and also accommodates a lot of offices, warehouses and a Church.
“Immediately, our Fire Truck and Firefighters were deployed to the fire scene.
“We were able to fight the fire, control and extinguish it. It was a successful firefighting operation.
*The fire outbreak was caused by power surge from one the electrical appliances.
“Some properties in some shops and some residential houses were damaged but a lot were saved including the Ifedico Petrol Filling Station
“We withdrew from the fire scene at about 1650hrs (4.50pm)
“I want urge the general public to always switch off their electrical and electronic appliances when they are not in use because none compliance to this simple fire safety rule will lead to power surge and fire outbreak.”
