Two suspected armed robbers have been set ablaze by irate mob along Limca road, Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The deceased, members of a 4-man tricycle robbery gang, reportedly met their waterloo after robbing owner of a Sienna car of his possessions at gunpoint along Umuoji road.
A resident of the area who identified himself as Uzodinma Chris, said two of the suspects were rounded up by local vigilante and passersby while two others escaped.
He listed the items the victim was robbed of to include money, handset, necklace, wristwatch, wallet, among others.
He said, “After robbing him of those items they allegedly sped off with their tricycle while the victim trailed them up to Nkpor motor park.
“The tricycle suddenly plunged into a drainage system which attracted attention of passers-by, street traders and local vigilante group.
“As they started running for safety, the mob pursued them and arrested two along the Limca road, where they were immediately set ablaze alive while two others escaped.”
Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga said the case was that of jungle justice, adding that one locally made Barreta pistol, seven live ammunition, and a tricycle were recovered at the scene of the incident.
He said, “It is a case of a jungle justice that happen by 3 pm on 25/6/2023 at Ogumba Street Junction old road.
“Before our operatives got to the scene, two out of the four criminals have been set ablaze by the angry mob while the other two escaped.
“Our operatives recovered one locally made Barreta pistol, seven live ammunition, and a tricycle at the scene and efforts are already in place to arrest the other two fleeing suspects.”
