The former chairman of Police Service Commission(PSC) Chief Simon Okeke says new president of Federal Republic of Nigeria should only be sworn in after the completion of litigation processes.
Chief Okeke stated this during an interactive session with journalists in his residence at Amichi in Nnewi South Local Goverment Area of Anambra State.
The former police boss said that it is a mockery of the system for a president to be inaugurated and another one would be sworn in months after being declared winner by the court.
“Since Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is not the final authority on who a winner is, in an election, I think the best thing to do is to wait until the election petitions are delt with by the tribunal or supreme court as the case may be before swearing in any of the contenders.” He said.
Chief Okeke while asked to comment on the performance of President Ahmed Bola Ahmed since he was sworn in said that it is too early to access the president’s performance.
He however added that so far, President Tinubu is not doing badly at the moment.
“The abolition of multiple rates for Dollar, subsidy removal, suspension and arrest of the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) and appointment of security chiefs are right steps in the right direction.”
Chief Okeke said as a matter of fact that President Tinubu is at the moment implementing the campaign manifesto of Mr Peter Obi of Labour Party (LP), who according to him won the last presidential election by all known standards.
The former police boss however insisted that Mr Peter Obi should pursue his case to the highest level possible to get justice.
“The Obidinents tsunami swept everywhere even Lagos State where Tinubu comes from, Peter Obi won the presidential election hands down.” He asserted.
Chief Okeke while commenting on the alleged lopsidedness in some of the appointments made by President Tinubu said that the development is not new in Nigeria noting that the chairman of Federal Character Commission should be arrested and jailed for gross failure.
Asked to comment on the continued incarceration of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) by the newly inaugurated government, the former police boss said “I believe that President Tinubu will look into that, before he became president, I saw some signs of sympathy, let’s give him some time.” He concluded.
