Anambra deputy gov ‘sympathizes’ with LP lawmaker over election victory

Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim on Sunday celebrated with member representing Awka South 1 state Constituency, Hon. Henry Mbachu over his victory at the recent general election.

He also ‘sympathized’ with the lawmaker in view of the enormous responsibilities awaiting him as the representative of his constituency.

Speaking during a thanksgiving service in honour of the lawmaker, attended by some other top government officials and other lawmakers, Ibezim said God uplifts people from being nobody to somebody.

He said he was pleased that the calibre of Mbachu was representing his Constituency, urging him to contribute his own quota through policies and constructive criticisms.

He said, “I commesurate with you because this victory is a clarion call for higher responsibilities. People normally see it and all about celebration when they win election. But it’s beyond that.

“It’s good you are thanksgiving to God for your victory which is more important than funfare. We’re also here to give hope to the youths. Youths are owners of today and no longer tomorrow. Even though we’re in perilous times, but we must get it right.”

Earlier, Mbachu who is one of the seven members elected on the LP platform in the state, attributed his election victory to God.

While citing the book of Romans chapter 9: 11-15, the lawmaker said: “it is only God that will explain what happened in Awka South I state Constituency. If we are to talk of those who will go, I am not fit. God just showed mercy to me”.

He debunked insinuations of jumbo pay by lawmakers, saying that their earnings are there in the Internet for all to see.

He however pledged to be accountable to his constituency, including fighting to get what is due to them, adding that such projects will be tabled before his Constituents to decide.

“I will start where my predecessor stopped and will carry my people along because people misrepresent lawmakers when they are not carried along, especially in executing projects for which Constituency fund is allocated,” he added.

He assured cordial relationship with the executive arm of government saying: “We won’t be rubber stamp. Anything that comes to the table that will benefit our people, I will get it by all means.

“But we are not going to fight. We are seven members of Labour Party and we won’t go there to fight. All our allowances will be channeled to the purpose for which they are meant”.
