Gov. Soludo offers N1million to cleanest LGA

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has placed N1million bounty on the cleanest Local Government Area in the State in a bid to ensure steady cleanliness of Anambra State.

Team leader, Operation Pick a Plastic/Recycling Association’, Oyi Local Government Area, Chief Okadigbo O. Ifeanyi, disclosed this during a one-day workshop on ‘Clean, Green and Sustainable Anambra, organised by caretaker committee members, Oyi Council Area, led by its chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Nweke, in conjunction with Anambra State Primary School Education Board.

Addressing participants at the workshop, Chief Ifeanyi stressed the need for clean environment adding that Soludo desired a clean and healthy Anambra which prompted him to encourage the people to sustain the cleanness project.

According to him there are two types of wastes, those that can turn to manure and those that can be recycled like plastic, iron, among others, pointing out that the owners of such wastes should make huge money if the wastes are in large quantity.

“When you gather these wastes they would be bought and the government is out to give  out #1million to the Local Government Area that is the cleanest and has largest wastes,” he assured.

Earlier, Caretaker committee chairman of the council, Hon. Nweke, commended Soludo for his initiative for a clean, green and sustainable Anambra, assuring full execution of the project.

He urged participants especially school pupils/students in attendance to carry the message to their parents on the need for both environmental and personal hygiene for healthy living.

“Stop dumping wastes or building on drainages and you should plant trees to help checkmate erosion menace. We organised this workshop for you to learn more on healthy living and we have resources persons who would do justice to this workshop.

“Nothing is a waste now, there are two types of wastes, the one that turns to manure and the one that is recycled. The resource persons will throw more light on them for sustainable clean, green and liveable Anambra,” he stated.

In her lecture, Director, Environmental Health and Pollution Control Department, Ministry of Environment, Awka, Mrs. Nwankwu Oluchi who represented the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Felix Odimegwu, stated that environmental and personal cleanliness prolonged the lives  of people.

She urged the participants to see the workshop as an eye opener in the quest for longevity pointing out that one hardly becomes sick if he keeps to these rules of hygiene.

Contributing, the Director, Environmental Health Services/Head of Department, HOD, Mrs.  Okonkwo Ifeoma, stressed the need to differentiate between decay and non decay wastes and keep the environment clean for healthy living.

In their various contributions, Mrs Enuka Edith O. Head, Local Government Administration and the Officer-in-Charge, Oyi Council Education Area, Mrs. Offia Ifenyinwa, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the workshop and paid glowing tribute to the council boss, Hon. Nweke and his executive members.

In his vote of thanks, the council secretary, Ichie Aniegboka Christopher Chukwuneke, described the workshop as marvelous and commendable adding that it would make their environment clean, green and sustainable.

He expressed optimism that those who attended the workshop would take the message home to impact positively on the people in the area pointing out that there was limitation to number of participants sequel to time frame but added that in subsequent ones the number would increase.
