DISTRICT KHYBER: Two police officers were killed while two others injuried when a hand grenade exploded in a bunker in Shahkas Levies centre in Khyber district, official said on Friday.
Police said Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police (SDPO) Nawaz Khan and other policemen including Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Barkatullah, constable Islam Gul and Shah Mehmood were visitng police bunkers when all of a sudden a hand grenade went off. Police said the incident took place when a hand-grinade mistakenly exploded of a police sepoy.
Two cops identified as Islam Gul and Shah Mehmood died on the spot while SDSP Nawaz Khan and Barkatullah sustained critical injuries.
The injured police were rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex where the health condition of the injured policemen was stated stable.
Later, funeral prayer of the two slain constables was offered at Shahkas Police Lines Headquarters.
Inspector General Police (IGP) KP Akhtar Hayat Gandapur, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Said Ishfaq Anwar, DPO Khyber Saleem Abbas Kalachi, Deputy Commissioner Khyber Abdul Nasir, Assistant Commissioner Bara Shahabuddin, police and civil officers,traders and attended the prayer.
Meanwhile, unidentified armed men shot dead a local resident Rahid Khan in the Malikdinkhel area in Bara tehsil on Friday.
Police have registered case against unkown killers and launched an investigation.
