The Federal Government on Wednesday ordered the total closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for three days for the replacement of delicate expansion joints on the bridge.

The Federal Controller of Works Lagos, Mr. Olukayode Popoola, who disclosed this to journalists in Lagos, said the closure of the bridge takes effect from midnight on Friday.

He said the construction works had reached the stage for the casting of concrete on additional three expansion joints on the bridge.

The works controller appealed for the understanding of Lagos residents, saying the government was passionate about the delivery of quality infrastructure and safety of road users.

Popoola said: “Messers Boroni Prono is planning to cast three number expansion joints on Saturday, January 30, and Sunday, January 31.

“This will require a total closure of Third Mainland Bridge from 12:00 midnight of Friday, January 29 till midnight of Monday, February 1, 2021.

“We are sorry for the inconveniences this may cause Lagosians.”
