15 frontline health workers down with coronavirus in Bauchi

The Bauchi State government has announced that no fewer than fifteen frontline health workers in the state have been infected with the dreaded coronavirus in the line of duty.

The commissioner for health in the state, Dr. Aliyu Maigoro announced this on Sunday while updating journalists on the activities of the state COVID 19 task force.

He however said the infected health workers are part of the 183 cases recorded in the state.

Lamenting the level of community transmission of the virus in some parts of the state, the state governor, Bala Mohammed extended the total lockdown of Azare, in Katagum Local Government Area, Giade and Zaki LGA, while also dispelling the rumour of mass deaths in the Azare.

“We are therefore extending a total lockdown of Azare town in Katagum, Giade and Zaki local government areas,” the governor said.

“This is because; the people in those areas are very close to Kano and Jigawa states. We are locking down the three LGAs for the period of 10 days,” he said.

Continuing the governor said the action was taken to enable the government establish a robust contact tracing, quarantine and treatment.

Adding that the three LGAs would be fumigated and decontaminated, he however directed the Chairman of the State Task Force on COVID 19, Deputy Governor, Baba Tela to relocate to Azare to ensure strict compliance of the order.
