11 petrol tankers destroyed as fire wrecks havoc in Kaduna park

Fire on Tuesday gutted a petrol tanker park in Ungwan Muazu, Kaduna South local government area of Kaduna state, destroying 11 petrol tankers in a huge inferno
The inferno was confirmed by the Executive Secretary, Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KASEMA), Malam Abdullahi Hassan.

The KASEMA boss, who was on the spot to assess the inferno and ascertain the level of destruction caused by the fire outbreak, said the incident led to the discovery of different illegal activities involving petroleum products in the area.
“It is unfortunate that people living in the area do not know the danger associated with the illegal movement of petroleum products. Sema would investigate to ascertain the involvement of residents and members of the community in such activities that allegedly led to the fire outbreak.

“It is important to note that with this discovery, the Agency will commence the assessment of the area as part of its mandate in ensuring public safety. We can advise government on what we need to do holistically as a state to distance people from this kind of risk,” the official said.
He warned against movement of petroleum products around residential areas, saying that those involved in such movement would be sanctioned.

According to eyewitnesses accounts, few persons who sustained injuries have been evacuated to hospitals for urgent medical attention.
