11 patients killed in Maharashtra Hospital as fire guts Covid-19 ward

Eleven people have been reported dead in a fire incident that occurred at the Covid ward of a hospital in Ahmednagar, India on Saturday night. 

The fire outbreak which happened in Maharashtra was put out by the efforts of firefighters. It is unknown at this time what caused the fire. However, initial estimates suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit. 

It is learned that a total of 16 patients were admitted in that covid ward. The rest were quickly shifted to the Covid ward of another hospital. 

District Magistrate, Rajendra Bhonsle told reporters that the structure of the hospital would be subjected to a ‘fire audit’. The cause of the fire will be investigated. 

Ahmednagar MLA NCP leader Sangram Jagtap has expressed grief over the accident. He also promised to punish the culprits. Sangram also spoke about the financial support to the victims.

He said, “Many people have lost their lives in the fire at the hospital here in Ahmednagar today. Of course, the whole matter will be investigated. But it will be done on behalf of the state government committee. Not on behalf of the local district committee. We have to find out how the fire started. The guilty must be punished. ”
