11 burnt to death in Enugu road accident

…Sources claimed all the passengers with the exception of one were burnt beyond recognition

11 passengers were burnt to death in a fatal accident near the Four-Corners Enugu at about 9 pm on Sunday.

The ill-fated 14-seater bus, which was said to be travelling from Imo State to Kano, reportedly ran into a trailer before going up in flames.

Sources claimed that all the passengers with the exception of one were burnt beyond recognition in the accident, which occurred at the Enugu end of the Enugu/Port Harcourt expressway.

The only surviving passenger in the auto crash was said to have jumped out of the vehicle from the window.

The lone survivor another source claimed is currently receiving treatment at the Emergency Unit of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla.

Confirming the incident to The DAILY VENDOR on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Daniel Ndukwe said the Toyota Hiace bus with registration number KTG 41 XD, was conveying 12 passengers from Imo State to Kano State.

Ndukwe said the bus rammed into a broken-down and stationary Howo Sino truck at Akegbe-Ugwu, along the express.

Adding that 11 passengers suffered severe burns and were pronounced dead when emergency responders rushed them to a hospital.

He said further investigation has been initiated by the Motor Traffic Department (MTD) of the Command.
